Punjab, known for its fertile plains and deep-rooted cultural heritage, is also facing growing environmental and urban challenges. Rapid urbanization, industrial activities, and increasing pressure on natural resources have led to significant stress on the region’s water systems. One such example is the Kala Sanghian Drain, which has been severely impacted by pollution and ecological degradation. Addressing these concerns requires a strategic and integrated approach that balances urban growth with environmental sustainability.
Our work in Punjab focuses on enabling eco-city region interventions that restore and protect urban water systems. Through the Haria Bharia Jalandhar Initiative, we are developing scalable proof-of-concept models for blue-green infrastructure solutions. Additionally, the Jalandhar ECR Fellowship Program is equipping young professionals and municipal stakeholders with the skills and knowledge to drive sustainable urban transformation. By combining technical expertise, on-ground action, and capacity-building, we aim to foster resilient and environmentally sustainable city-regions in Punjab
