WRI India Supports UP Conclave 2023 on Strategic Eco-City Planning

WRI India participated in the Uttar Pradesh Regional Planning Conclave 2023, a collaborative event organized by the Housing and Urban Planning Department (HUPD), Government of Uttar Pradesh, and the High-Level Committee (HLC) for Urban Planning under the Government of India. WRI India also supported in organising and shaping the agenda and discourse for the event and its sessions along with government partners. The conclave brought together a distinguished group of stakeholders, including senior bureaucrats, state and city officials, and national-level experts. Key participants included:

  • Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh
  • Chairman, HLC – MoHUA and Advisor, Government of Uttar Pradesh for Urban Sector Improvement
  • Additional Chief Secretary (Housing and Urban Planning, GoUP)
  • Principal Secretary (Housing and Urban Planning Department, GoUP)
  • Divisional Commissioners and Vice Chairpersons of development authorities from all eight divisions of Uttar Pradesh

The event served as a platform for collaborative dialogue on urban planning and the future of Uttar Pradesh’s city-regions

Presenting an Eco-City Vision for Uttar Pradesh

At the conclave, Rejeet Mathews (Program Director, Integrated Urban Development) presented a regional analysis focused on eco-city planning for Uttar Pradesh. The session emphasized the importance of addressing climate change and ecological challenges in shaping resilient and adaptive city-regions.
Pratibha Patil (Program Associate, Urban Development) shared insights from international case studies, including regional planning initiatives in Chicago, Tokyo, and Portland, highlighting best practices for integrating climate considerations into urban development strategies.
These presentations underlined the critical need for climate-resilient regional planning, encouraging decision-makers to adopt long-term, integrated frameworks for city-region development.
