WRI India Partners with Directorate of Urban Local Bodies in Uttar Pradesh

On March 6th, 2024, WRI India formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), to provide technical expertise and knowledge assistance in key urban development sectors. This partnership aims to develop data-driven strategies for stormwater management, promote climate-resilient urban planning, and craft guidance documents tailored to support the growth of smaller towns within the state.

Key elements of the collaboration include:

  • Stormwater Management: Leveraging data-driven tools to design state-level strategies for effective stormwater management.
  • Climate-Resilient Urban Planning: Crafting sustainable urban planning practices that enhance resilience against climate change, with a focus on smaller towns.
  • Capacity Building & Training: Conducting initiatives aimed at strengthening urban governance, planning, and environmentally sustainable development practices.

The MoU signing ceremony was held between Dr. Nitin Bansal (IAS), Director of Urban Local Bodies, GoUP, and Madhav Pai, CEO of WRI India, in the presence of Shri. Amrit Abhijat (IAS), Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh, and Rejeet Mathews, Program Director for Integrated Urban Development at WRI India.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable urban growth and governance in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that smaller towns are equipped to tackle the challenges of urbanization and climate change effectively.
