The eleventh ExpertTalks session was led by Paramjeet Chawla, Program Manager at WRI India, focusing on data sources and data analysis techniques. This session was designed to equip the Jalandhar Eco City Regions Fellows with essential skills for sourcing and analyzing data, key to informed decision-making for sustainable urban development.

Key highlights of the session included:

  • National and Global Data Sources: Fellows were introduced to essential data sources like the Census India website, National Family Health Survey, and district handbooks for comprehensive data collection.
  • Data Visualization Techniques: The session emphasized the importance of using visualization techniques to make sense of complex data.
  • Aligning Data with SDGs: A discussion on the relevance of data indices to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with examples from Jalandhar, highlighted how data-driven approaches can inform sustainable urban policies.

Paramjeet emphasized the distinction between data and information, stressing the importance of clear research objectives and aligning them with national and global data sources to drive effective, evidence-based decision-making.
